WHY JOIN THE ADA?

Sub Heading Part 1

With the UK and Europe criminalising the replica furniture industry - Australia is now targeted by businesses that profit by selling cheap copies of original furniture and lighting. Our thirst for fake designer furniture outstrips all other western nations, dubbed the ‘Wild West’ of fake designer furniture. *David Trubridge ABC Radio National

Unless our industry and supporters unite to demand change to halt this onslaught – Australian businesses will continue to close, and our design talent will relocate to protected territories. We should consider the bigger picture. It’s not just designers who lose out to counterfeit design – it’s the manufacturers, distributors and a much wider network engaged in the business of original design.

6 REASONS TO JOIN

Sub Heading Part 1

1.

PETITION GOVERNMENT FOR ‘REPLICA’ TO BE OUTLAWED

ADA drives strategic campaigns demanding radical changes to existing design laws, IP protection and call for ‘replica’ designs to be outlawed. This requires a dedicated team to pursue medium and long-term outcomes.
4.

ORIGINAL CONTENT FOR TALKS, EVENTS, PUBLICATIONS & EVENTS

During 2016-17 more than 5000 people joined our talks, workshops, and events; we’ve published24 newspapers (circulation 20,000) and co-created the new three-day festival DESIGN-MADE. We create and produce original content for all of our activity.
2.

RESEARCH CASE STUDIES TO DEMONSTRATE FINANCIAL LOSS

The recent Productivity Commission made no recommendations to change the existing – vastly inadequate design IP laws, citing a lack of ‘empirical evidence.’ The ADA must continue our research and collate case studies to demonstrate economic loss by our industry
5.

POWERED BY INDUSTRY / EMPOWERING INDUSTRY

ADA will host ‘think tanks’ and premium members can contribute to driving our agenda and help us address key issues. We will also develop knowledge-based programs (e.g Copyright Protection x IP ‘how to’ workshops), to lead better industry practice.
3.

DESIGN EDUCATION ABOUT THE CREATORS AND PROCESSES

European consumers have a rich design history that is embedded in community and business. Australia lacks design heritage and we aim to engage a wider audience share the meaning, purpose and cultural importance of supporting original design products.
6.

PODCASTS, ADA DIGITAL MAGAZINE AND MEDIA CAMPAIGN

Most of our talks have been recorded, and we have a stack of content ready to roll out in print and online. Advertising and sponsored social media posts will also help us spread campaign messaging. Fees will help us build a marketing and editorial team.
