EVENT + AWARD PARTNERS
CANBERRA DESIGN FESTIVAL
Held annually in for three weeks in November, CRAFT ACT x DESIGN CANBERRA hosts 100 events, exhibitions, talks, tours, markets, collaborations, artist studios and open homes showcase DESIGN Canberra, transforming the nation’s capital into a new platform for design and experimentation. ADA® presented a panel talk at the 2017 National Design Writers forum and joins CDF again in 2018/19.
DESIGN SHOW
Formerly DenFair, the Design Show is a three-day trade show held in mid-June, alternating between Sydney and Melbourne. Co-located with Archibuild and the Kitchen+Bathroom show, the event hosts Australia's Next Top Designer, an emerging Australian product design showcase. As a strategic partner, the ADA presents talks on circular practice within furniture specifications and purchasing.
DESIGN-MADE. Podcast
Launched in 2017 as Sydney's first independent design showcase, a three-day exhibition of products, installations, and workshops celebrating the best of new work by Australian designers and makers. Relaunching late 2024, DESIGN-MADE. Podcast shares stories about everyday objects and how they are created and made, hosted by ADA director AMS.
FACTORY DESIGN DISTRICT
Factory Design District joined the Vivid Sydney program to promote work by local independent designers, makers, and self-producers. Founded by JP Finsbury director Kobe Johns, the exhibition of affordable and environmentally sustainable furniture, lighting, and objects included the ADA® in partnership to present installations and host talks.
DESIGN FRINGE
Design Fringe (formerly Fringe Furniture) is one of the longest-running emerging design platforms, presented by the Melbourne Fringe Festival. As part of our partnership, we present the Authentic Design Alliance DESIGN FUTURES Award, and ADA Director AMS has led the Gender Equity Mentor Porgram since 2020 for female and non-binary practitioners.
MELBOURNE DESIGN WEEK
Presented by Creative Victoria and the NGV, MDW hosts a 10-day event with 300 events across Melbourne in May. We partner with ADA members to support openings, talks and exhibitions, including IP workshops with IP Australia. SYDNEY CRAFT WEEK
Celebrating the creative diversity of Sydney’s contemporary craft community, Sydney Craft Week is held annually in October. Led by the Australian Design Centre, the 10-day program features a city-wide showcase of exhibitions, workshops, talks and open studios.
SYDNEY DESIGN FESTIVAL
Presented by MAAS Powerhouse Museum, 100+ events are held city-wide in March. The ADA presented workshops and talks in 2017/18; and HOME.GROWN. 3-day event celebrating Australian design at century old Mungo Scott Flour Mill.
THE DESIGN FILES AWARDS
THE DESIGN FILES AWARDS offers a $30,000 prize pool across 12 creative categories that include interior, product, landscape, textile and floral design, as well as architecture, styling / art direction, hand crafted and sustainability. The ADA contributes to judging the Emerging Designer category, winners announced September 2019.
VIVID DESIGN COMPETITION
Emerging design award vivid design competition delivers the 16th edition in 2019. Supported by industry experts and design luminaries, and curated by Daniel Della RIVA , vivid has exhibited more than 1,000 products by 700 designers to kick-start their careers. ‘The ADA® Award of Merit’ celebrates and awards innovation.
WORKSHOPPED
WORKSHOPPED supports Australian product design, presenting work by 450 designers seen by 650,000 people at 18 public exhibitions. The platform includes a curated student exhibition, and WORKSHOPPED Salon for established designers. Now presented in partnership with Australian Design Centre, WORKSHOPPED celebrates 20 years in 2020.
